Goals of SPF-SIG
1. Prevent the onset and reduce
the progression of substance use, including
underage drinking.

This will be accomplished by
focusing on the following aspects.
ü
Youth and young adult alcohol
use/abuse.
ü
Marijuana use/abuse.
ü
Cocaine/crack use/abuse.
ü
Methamphetamine use/abuse.
ü
Decrease risk factors/increase
protective factors.
2. Reduce substance-related
problems in communities.

This will be accomplished by
focusing on the following aspects.
ü
Increase community/family/school
connectedness
ü
Decrease school leaving
ü
Decrease risky sexual behavior
ü
Decrease impaired driving deaths
ü
Decrease substance-related crime
ü
Decrease senior substance
use/abuse factors.
3. Build prevention
capacities/infrastructure at State and community
levels.

This will be accomplished by
strengthening the following aspects.

Stakeholder readiness
ü
Structures and formal linkages.
ü
Resoureces
ü
Champion roles
ü
Policies and Procedures
ü
Quality of
planning/evaluation/reporting
ü
Expertise
The target age for the SPF-SIG grant is 12-24
year olds.
As a coalition we will be expected to develop
a county-wide comprehensive, strategic
prevention plant that will accomplish the
following.
ü
Prevent the onset and reduce
the progression of substance use, including
underage drinking.
ü
Reduce substance-related
problems in communities.
ü
Build prevention
capacities/infrastructure at State and community
levels.
